*I received an e-copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
In this suspenseful thriller, two lovers are in a race against all odds in the jungles of the Philippines to save their kidnapped friend. Somewhere in the Shallow Sea will test the main characters’ determination in order to outwit the man who is after the scientific compound they brought as ransom.
First of all, I got interested to review this book because the author, Dennis Macaraeg, is my fellow Filipino though he grew up in USA. So maybe now you know why the story is set in the Philippines. 😀
This book is suspenseful and thrilling, and I liked it. It was fast paced and it doesn’t have idle parts. I didn’t expect this book to be full of action though some scenes and character behavior were unrealistic.
The main character is Danny, an oceanographer whose bestfriend and co-researcher, Blake, was kidnapped in the Philippines. He went straight to the country as soon as he found out the news, and there he met his ex-girlfriend, Helen, who happens to be Blake’s cousin. And they set on a journey to save Blake, and to rekindle their love. I just wished that the author gave more details about Blake and other important characters.
What I like most on this book is that it immerses its readers well, the author gave a lot of facts about the culture, traditions, life, and places in the Philippines. And this book reminded me of typical Filipino action movies! Haha.
If you are into travel and thriller reads, you should definitely read this book.
